Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has announced a new policy regarding penalty taking after a dispute arose among players during Monday night’s victory against Everton.
The Blues secured a 6-0 win at Stamford Bridge, with Cole Palmer scoring four goals and moving joint-top of the Premier League scoring charts.
Palmer’s final goal came from the penalty spot in the second half after being fouled by Abdoulaye Doucoure. However, confusion ensued when Noni Madueke attempted to take the penalty, prompting Nicolas Jackson to argue his case.

Captain Conor Gallagher intervened, informing them that Palmer would be taking the spot-kick. Despite having already scored a hat-trick, Palmer maintained his perfect penalty record, making it nine out of nine for Chelsea.
Pochettino expressed his disappointment with the situation after the match, stating to Sky Sports, “It is a shame. I was telling the players when we arrived from the pitch…For me, it is a shame because we cannot behave in this way and I can only apologise.”
He continued, “I told them that this is the last time that I accept this type of behaviour. Next time those involved in a situation like this are all out. This is not a joke…It’s impossible after a performance like this to have this type of behaviour that shows that we are in a process and we will learn a lot.”
Palmer downplayed the incident in his own interview, stating, “Other players wanted to take it, but I am the penalty taker and I wanted to take it…Afterwards, we were laughing and joking about it, but the manager has spoken to us about it.”
