Mauricio Pochettino has acknowledged that Chelsea fell short in matching the energy displayed by Manchester United during their defeat at Old Trafford on Wednesday. The 2-1 loss marked Chelsea’s sixth of the season, with Scott McTominay scoring both goals for Man Utd.
Expressing his disappointment in the post-match press conference, Pochettino attributed the defeat to his team’s failure to match the Red Devils’ energy levels. He stated, “I am disappointed because we didn’t start the game well. The feeling is that they started better than us, showing more energy than us. We couldn’t match the energy. I think they were better than us, and there’s nothing I can say.”
Despite creating ample chances, Chelsea couldn’t capitalize on them, particularly in the first half when the score was level at 1-1. Pochettino highlighted the need for greater clinical finishing, saying, “We drew the first half and at 1-1 had some good chances, and should have scored and been more clinical, that was the problem.”

Reflecting on the second half, Pochettino acknowledged a lack of aggression and energy from his team. He noted, “The second half we started well but then we conceded, and again I think we missed a little bit the energy to be more aggressive. We had some chances but not enough to get back in the game again. But overall my feeling is that they were better than us and deserved the three points.”
Pochettino also considered the impact of playing with ten players for the entire second half in their previous match against Brighton. He admitted, “I think to play against Brighton with a man less for 60 minutes maybe affected a little bit the energy and the performance of the players.”
