Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed engaging in discussions with homegrown midfielder Conor Gallagher regarding his future at Stamford Bridge amidst potential departure speculations.
Last week, 90min reported that Chelsea is willing to entertain offers for Gallagher due to a club policy regarding players in the final 18 months of their contracts, drawing parallels to the situation that led to the sale of Mason Mount to Manchester United in the summer.
Gallagher, who has featured in 19 of Chelsea’s 20 Premier League games this season, often captaining the side in the absence of Reece James, is admired by Pochettino, who is keen to retain the 23-year-old. However, negotiations to extend Gallagher’s contract beyond 2025 have hit a standstill.

Speaking on Gallagher’s situation, Pochettino expressed satisfaction with the player’s performance, acknowledging his valuable contributions to the club. Despite Pochettino’s desire for Gallagher to stay, discussions on a contract extension have not progressed.
Pochettino revealed, “I think he’s doing a fantastic job, he’s working well, he’s helping the club and [the coaching staff] and his teammates a lot. We are happy with his performances. He has an advantage because he knows the club. He knows the demands of the Premier League. We are so happy with him.”
Acknowledging the importance of open communication, Pochettino disclosed conversations with Gallagher about the situation, emphasizing the necessity of honest and direct discussions between coaches and players. Chelsea, wary of losing Gallagher at a reduced price, has set a valuation between £55m and £60m for a potential transfer, with a guaranteed £45m. However, meeting this valuation has proven challenging, with Tottenham Hotspur previously deterred during the summer after learning that £35m fell significantly short.
