However, Benfica has rejected Manchester United’s bid, deeming it insufficient. Benfica president Rui Costa is demanding closer to โ‚ฌ100 million, given Neves’ release clause of โ‚ฌ120 million.

It’s unclear whether Manchester United are willing or able to meet this valuation. Benfica has a history of securing substantial fees for their players, having previously sold Joao Felix and Enzo Fernandez for over ยฃ100 million each and Darwin Nunez to Liverpool for ยฃ80 million.

Record also notes that Benfica expects Neves’ value to rise following Euro 2024, similar to how Fernandez’s value increased after the 2022 World Cup. Additionally, Benfica plans to offer Neves, 19, a new contract with an improved salary to reflect his growing importance to the team.

Last season, Neves made 33 league appearances and played in 55 games across all competitions for Benfica. His rapid ascent mirrors the impact of Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United, who is also set to play in Euro 2024. The potential partnership between Neves and Mainoo excites United fans.

This summer, Manchester United completed one deal with Benfica, signing defender Alvaro Fernandez for ยฃ5 million after a successful loan spell. Despite this positive transaction, there is no indication that Benfica will offer United any discount on their star midfielder.
