In the early stages of the game, Manchester United troubled Villa’s defense with their pace on the break and high-pressing. In the 11th minute, a clever pass from Bruno Fernandes to Hojlund, who controlled the ball inside the area, saw Hojlund’s effort deflect wide of the post.

Hojlund found the net just five minutes later, capitalizing on a Fernandes corner that was skillfully headed into his path in the six-yard box, and he calmly finished with a volley.

Aston Villa fought their way back into the game, with John McGinn and Ollie Watkins forcing Andre Onana into two smart saves. Despite Villa’s intent, Manchester United’s solid defense limited them to three shots on target despite the home side enjoying 60% of possession.

The defensive solidity weakened at the start of the second half due to an injury that saw Luke Shaw replaced by Victor Lindelof. Lindelof faced a challenging moment against Matty Cash on the right flank, but Onana came to the rescue by saving Watkins’ close-range effort.
