A recent report from 90min indicated that Timo Werner was on their shortlist before his loan move from RB Leipzig to Tottenham Hotspur, and Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy was also of interest.
United’s commitment to complying with the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules limited their flexibility last month. However, according to ESPN, they anticipate having slightly more room to maneuver in the summer, although budgets will still be tight.

With budget considerations in mind, United sees targeting players with expiring contracts as a strategic way to manage expenses. The arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea last summer was approached similarly, as United was informed that he would not sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge before its 2024 expiry, and Chelsea was reluctant to lose him on a free transfer. However, Mount has spent much of his debut season at United sidelined with injury.
Players with contracts expiring in 2025, such as Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, Nice’s Khephren Thuram, and Lille’s Jonathan David, are among the top names mentioned in the report. However, it does not explicitly state whether these players are on United’s radar.
