Reports indicate that Gareth Southgate has consistently been among the top candidates on INEOS’ list to potentially become the next manager of Manchester United in case Erik ten Hag were to depart.
However, there’s a potential hurdle if United were to pursue him this summer: Southgate wouldn’t be available until at least July. With the European Championships approaching and England expected to progress to at least the knockout stages, his availability wouldn’t align with United’s immediate needs, especially in the summer transfer market.
Southgate’s tenure as England manager has divided opinions, despite leading the national team to the final of the last European Championships. Prior to that, England hadn’t reached the final of a major tournament since winning the World Cup in 1966.
