Following the departure of David De Gea, the previous season’s Premier League Golden Glove winner, Manchester United signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan for over €50 million to fill the goalkeeper position. However, Onana has faced challenges and made critical errors, notably contributing to Manchester United’s elimination from the Champions League this season.

Sources indicate that Manchester United is exploring the possibility of swapping Onana for Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid. The Spanish source Todo Fichajes reports that Atletico Madrid is open to receiving offers for the 31-year-old goalkeeper. Manchester United is said to be preparing a bid of £38.5 million (45 million euros) to secure the services of the former Benfica star.

Oblak has established himself as a standout player for Atletico Madrid in La Liga, earning the title of the top goalkeeper in the 2015-16 season. He was also recognized as La Liga’s Most Valuable Player in the 2020-21 season when Atletico Madrid clinched the championship.

With Manchester United facing a goalkeeping dilemma this season, the club sees Jan Oblak as a potential permanent solution to strengthen their defensive lineup. The move aims to address the issues that have proven costly for the team, with Onana’s performance falling short of expectations after an impressive season with Inter Milan.
