Manchester United could face the absence of at least one key player during the Africa Cup of Nations, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka contemplating a switch in his international allegiance.
The Manchester United defender is reportedly considering representing the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) instead of England. Although Wan-Bissaka has played for England at the Under-21 level and earned a senior squad call-up, he is yet to make his debut for the Three Lions. The 25-year-old qualifies for the DRC through his family and has received an approach to join their team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Wan-Bissaka, born in Croydon, previously played once for the DRC Under-20 side before focusing on England. Frustrated in his quest for a senior England cap, he is considering the opportunity to represent the African nation at the prestigious tournament, scheduled to begin in Cote d’Ivoire on January 13. The DRC has been drawn into a group with Morocco, Zambia, and Tanzania.

This isn’t the first time Wan-Bissaka has been approached to change his international allegiance. While at Crystal Palace, he rejected such offers, stating his commitment to representing England. However, the current scenario, coupled with the frustration of not getting a senior England cap, has opened the door for reconsideration.
If Wan-Bissaka makes the switch, it could leave Manchester United without several players during AFCON. Hannibal has earned senior caps for Tunisia, Sofyan Amrabat is expected to feature for Morocco, and goalkeeper Andre Onana is back in contention for Cameroon after a brief international hiatus.
