Manchester United has officially announced that Anthony Martial is set for an extended period on the sidelines following groin surgery.
Having been absent since early December due to illness, manager Erik ten Hag had been vague about Martial’s condition in public statements, citing his unavailability without divulging details. However, it has now been revealed that Martial has been contending with a groin injury. After undergoing successful surgery to address the issue, the striker is expected to be out of action for approximately ten weeks.
A club statement reads, “Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has completed successful surgery to address a groin complaint and will be out of action for about ten weeks as he rehabilitates. We wish Anthony a speedy recovery and look forward to his return.”

Martial, who has already missed seven games due to illness and injury, is now slated to return to the pitch in mid-April. This timeline presents a race against time for his comeback before the conclusion of United’s Premier League season. With the match against Bournemouth scheduled for April 13, Martial faces a tight schedule, as there are only five more matches until the season concludes.
His current contract with Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the season. Although the 28-year-old has the option for a 12-month extension, it is not expected that United will trigger this clause. Consequently, Martial could depart from Old Trafford for free in the summer, concluding a nine-year tenure with the club.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United is reportedly looking for a new striker to bolster the squad. Club officials are seeking an experienced player to support Rasmus Hojlund. It is noted that 21-year-old Ajax forward Brian Brobbey is not currently a target for United.
