Burnley has made the bold decision to hire former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany as their new manager. Last season, the Belgian manager was in charge of Anderlecht in his own country, but he resigned at the end of May.
On Tuesday afternoon, the club announced the news on their website, but did not indicate how long it would last. Kompany has returned to English football after a three-year hiatus during which he resigned from the game and began a management career.
He joined Anderlecht as a player-coach in 2019, but stood down shortly to focus on his playing duties, giving the reins over to Simon Davies. Kompany withdrew from playing at the end of the season to concentrate on management.

Despite the high expectations, he failed to win a major award during his three years at Anderlecht. They finished 8th, 4th, and 3rd in the league during his three seasons there, as well as reaching the Belgian Cup final.
Although he has worked with some of the top minds in the game, Kompany has yet to show himself as a manager. Burnley will almost certainly be a baptism of fire in their own right, with the Championship being a difficult league to escape even at the best of circumstances.
