West Ham United has reached an agreement with Manchester City for the loan of Kalvin Phillips, as reported by 90min.
The 28-year-old midfielder has seen limited playing time during his 18-month tenure at City, accumulating just 390 minutes in the Premier League across 16 appearances. Despite featuring more regularly in cup competitions and European matches, Phillips has faced increased competition in City’s midfield.
West Ham has secured a loan deal for Phillips until the end of the season, with the Europa Conference League winners covering his wages. The agreement is believed to include an option to buy in the summer. City, aiming to recoup a significant portion of the £42 million fee paid to Leeds United in July 2022, faced competition from clubs such as Newcastle United and Juventus for Phillips.

Following the departure of captain Declan Rice to Arsenal last summer, West Ham reinvested the £105 million fee in signings like Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, and Mohammed Kudus. Phillips’s addition to the squad offers depth in central midfield, potentially allowing Lucas Paqueta to continue excelling in a wide role.
Pending a successful medical examination, Phillips’s arrival provides manager David Moyes with the flexibility to rotate players in preparation for a demanding end to the season, including the Europa League knockout stages. West Ham advanced to the last 16 after topping their group, which included SC Freiburg, Olympiacos, and Backa Topola from Serbia. The draw for the next round is yet to be determined.
