Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen as part of their efforts to resolve ongoing defensive struggles.
United matched a club record of 18 goals conceded in a single calendar month during December, having suffered four consecutive losses in all competitions and five defeats in their last six Premier League matches.
To address these issues, Mundo Deportivo reports that United are closely monitoring Christensen, who could be allowed to leave Barcelona in 2025 after falling down the club’s defensive hierarchy. The Danish defender’s injury absence earlier in the season also helped facilitate Dani Olmo’s registration at Barcelona.

Christensen’s experience playing in a back three, particularly during his time at Chelsea under Antonio Conte, could make him an ideal fit for United. While he has largely played in a defensive duo since, his successful spell under Conte has left a lasting impression.
However, Manchester United may face challenges in persuading Christensen to leave Barcelona, as the player recently stated that he has no immediate plans to depart.
“I can only speak from the conversations I’ve had with the club, and so far, they’ve just told me to make sure I’m ready and that they’re looking forward to my return,” Christensen told TV Sport 2 as he prepares to come back from injury.
“Of course, Iโm staying at Barcelona. I approach it with the mindset that it will be difficult. Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Ronald Araujo have done incredibly well, and now itโs up to me to prove myself. The ultimate goal is to come back and play as many matches as possible, but it will be challenging.”
