The 23-year-old Saidi Musa has been charged by the Nigeria Police in a Kwara State Magistrates Court in Ilorin for the alleged murder of his father, Chief Musa, the Elemosho of Shareland in the Kwara State local government of Ifelodun.
Saidi, who is accused of forcing his father to die, will go on trial for culpable homicide.
Saidi was accused of attacking his father, the traditional chief of Share, the state’s Ifelodun Local Government Council headquarters, since the deceased father was allegedly showering him with “cause” without any justification.

Saidi’s allegation in the Police First Information Report (FIR) that his father was torturing him while he was seated in the sitting room was made public.
According to the FIR, Saidi became enraged about his father’s hurtful remarks and assaulted him with a cutlass on the head, striking him multiple times until he passed away. He then fled to a mountain in Share.
Sergeant Abdullah Sanni, the police prosecutor, told the court that since this was a culpable homicide, the case is not typically bailable. He urged the court to take into consideration the motion ex parte attached to the FIR and issue an order remanding the defendant to the Correctional facility center.
In a brief verdict, Chief Magistrate Alhaji Mohammed Dasuki, who is presiding over the case, ordered Saidi’s remand and postponed it until January 9, 2024.
This case—culpable homicide, which carries a death sentence—is outside the jurisdiction of this court. I thus direct that the defendant be housed at the Federal Correctional Service facility in Ilorin until the next adjourned date in consideration of the exparte motion that is attached to the charge paper. The matter is postponed until January 24, 2024, for further consideration,” he stated.
