The hearing into Manchester City’s alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules has reportedly concluded, according to The Daily Mail. Closing arguments were completed on Friday, with a verdict expected in the coming months from a three-person panel.

The reigning Premier League champions were charged in February 2023 with 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations, accusations they have consistently denied. If found guilty, City could face significant penalties, which might have implications for rivals such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

Reports suggest a minority of Premier League clubs favor relegation as a punishment if the most severe charges are proven. However, The Independent notes this outcome is unlikely, as it would require a special shareholders’ meeting and a vote supported by at least 15 clubs.

Proceedings began on September 16 at London’s International Dispute Resolution Centre and, following a brief pause, have now reached their conclusion. Regardless of the panel’s decision, both parties are expected to appeal, potentially delaying a final resolution until the end of next season.

City are accused of failing to provide accurate financial information over nine seasons, from 2009/10 to 2017/18, including undisclosed payments to former manager Roberto Mancini between 2009/10 and 2012/13. They are also charged with failing to disclose payments made to players from 2010/11 to 2015/16 and for non-cooperation with the investigation from 2018 to 2023.

The case marks a critical moment in the ongoing scrutiny of financial compliance in football and could have far-reaching consequences for the club and the league.
