Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has openly expressed his desire to manage Barcelona again in the future, just weeks before their anticipated UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash.
Enrique, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career at both Barcelona and rivals Real Madrid, previously served as the manager of the Catalan club from 2014 to 2017. During his tenure, he led Barcelona to Champions League success in 2015, boasting a formidable attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar.
Amidst the March international break, Enrique resumed streaming on Twitch to engage with fans. During a recent livestream session, he addressed the prospect of returning to manage Barcelona, particularly with current boss Xavi expected to step down at the end of the season.

“I have always expressed my desire, but the reality is that circumstances rarely align perfectly. It’s challenging for paths to converge at the right time,” Enrique conceded. “This summer, based on what Xavi has stated, Barcelona will be seeking a new coach. However, I am under contract, and my principle is to honor commitments and remain faithful to those who have placed their trust in me.”
Enrique’s sentiments were echoed by Barcelona president Joan Laporta in an interview with Mundo Deportivo. While Laporta expressed admiration for Enrique, he emphasized the importance of respecting Xavi’s decision and indicated that discussions regarding managerial appointments would only proceed once Xavi’s intentions are clear.
“Luis is someone I hold in high regard. He possesses character, personality, and qualities that I appreciate,” Laporta remarked. “However, out of respect for Xavi, we have refrained from engaging in talks with Luis or anyone else. We are awaiting Xavi’s decision, and any potential candidates will need to wait until then.”
Enrique’s PSG is set to host Xavi’s Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on April 10, followed by a return fixture in Catalonia on April 16. The victor will advance to face either Atletico Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals.
