A new era begins on the red side of Merseyside as Arne Slot steps into the daunting task of continuing Jurgen Klopp’s remarkable legacy.

While Klopp’s farewell from Liverpool was understandably prolonged, and his influence at Anfield won’t fade quickly, the arrival of Slot signals a new chapter for the Reds.

Champions League-winning manager Klopp sought to orchestrate a mini-rebuild last summer following an underwhelming 2022/23 campaign. However, Liverpool’s faltering end to the season underscored the ongoing need for recruitment improvements.

Slot and his team face a busy summer as they strive to build upon the solid foundation left by the previous regime.

While Liverpool’s squad doesn’t necessitate an overhaul, they boast depth in most areas. Several academy talents showcased their potential last season.

There’s expected movement at center-back following Joel Matip’s departure as a free agent. With Virgil van Dijk’s future uncertain and concerns over Ibrahima Konate’s form, the club may seek additional cover in this position.

The Reds struggled to secure their preferred holding midfielder last summer, settling for Stuttgart’s Wataru Endo. While Endo enjoyed a promising debut season, Liverpool may look to upgrade in this area. Slot could explore deploying Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister.

In attack, Liverpool require a succession plan for Mohamed Salah and could target a wide forward, especially with doubts surrounding Luis Diaz’s future.

While there’s been limited noise regarding potential incoming signings, Liverpool is set to prioritize moves for a wide forward and a center-back. The specific profiles they’re pursuing remain unclear.

Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville, who impressed at Anfield two seasons ago, has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool. With Leeds remaining in the Championship, Summerville is likely to seek a move this summer.

Khephren Thuram, previously linked with Liverpool, may be available at a discounted price from Nice. The French midfielder could be a suitable addition to Slot’s midfield setup.

Sporting CP’s left-footed center-back Goncalo Inacio is another prospect worth monitoring, with reports suggesting he’s open to a move away from Portugal.

While veterans Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara have departed, Slot is likely to assess the remaining squad members before determining their futures.

Luis Diaz, despite impressing last season, may command a substantial fee in the transfer market. The Colombian’s productivity remains a concern, making him a potential departure candidate.

While Alisson has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, Liverpool is reluctant to lose their star goalkeeper. Caoimhin Kelleher may seek regular playing time elsewhere.

Joe Gomez’s resurgence at left-back has pushed Kostas Tsimikas down the pecking order. Although Tsimikas recently extended his contract, Liverpool could entertain reasonable offers for his services.
