Despite his good recent return to the squad, Naby Keita’s contract negotiations with Liverpool have been called off, and he will be released.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who missed the first half of the season with a hamstring injury, has impressed in three cameo Premier League games as a replacement.

Liverpool had discussions about extending Keita’s current contract because they didn’t want to lose him for nothing in the summer.

The international player from Guinea will now go on a free transfer in the summer after those negotiations fell through.

Jurgen Klopp will not permit it since he already lacks midfield options and Keita is still a part of his first-team plans, even though he could depart this month.

As Gossipinfo News reported in September, Klopp continues to be a huge fan of a player who he frequently chooses when healthy.

Due in large part to his poor track record of availability and the slew of injuries that have dogged his Anfield career, the club demanded that Keita accept a pay cut in order to remain.

Keita “has only played 26% of the league minutes available since he got to the club,” according to injury specialist Ben Dinnery.

Due to this, the midfielder’s transfer value has significantly decreased since he joined the club in the summer of 2018 for ยฃ52.75 million from RB Leipzig.

Keita has made 122 appearances, 11 goals, and seven assists in his four and a half seasons at Anfield.

The midfielder has struggled to emulate his consistent goal-scoring performances at previous clubs Leipzig and RB Salzburg.
