Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai sustained a hamstring injury during Monday night’s 4-2 victory at home against Newcastle United.
Szoboszlai, who was replaced by Ryan Gravenberch in the 64th minute, was seen lightly limping off the field. Initially, the substitution did not imply an injury, as Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz were also substituted at the same time. However, Klopp revealed in the post-match press conference that Szoboszlai had indeed experienced a hamstring issue just before being taken off.
“We wanted to take him off, that was the plan, but unfortunately it was somehow a minute late because in the last situation he felt the hamstring,” Klopp explained. “Now we don’t know the extent of it, obviously, so we have to wait.”

Szoboszlai is scheduled to undergo a scan in the coming days to assess the severity of the injury and determine the potential duration of his absence. However, it is highly likely that he will miss Liverpool’s upcoming FA Cup match against Arsenal and could be sidelined for additional fixtures.
Liverpool’s busy schedule in January includes a Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham on January 10, a Premier League clash against Bournemouth on January 21, and further engagements against Chelsea. Despite Szoboszlai’s injury setback, Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with the Monday victory, propelled by goals from Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, and Cody Gakpo.
While Szoboszlai faces a recovery period, Liverpool received a boost with the return of Alexis Mac Allister, who played the final 15 minutes after recovering from a knee problem.
