After the competition, rumors surfaced suggesting that Messi and PSG were planning to continue their partnership after this season, when his current contract expires.

In addition to being a world champion, Lionel Messi is also in high demand.

But according to journalist Gerard Romero things have changed and Messi is no longer planning to sign a new deal in Paris.

Right now, the 35-year-old appears more likely to be a free agent than a member of PSG come July.

Major League Soccer has been linked to Messi in the past, and according to AS the contract situation has made that possibility more likely.

The two teams that have expressed interest are Inter Miami and New York City FC, although there has also been talk that Messi would follow Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Arabian league.

This season, Messi has been in outstanding form for PSG, contributing 13 goals and 14 assists in 21 games across all competitions.

The capital club has moved three points ahead of Lens at the top of Ligue 1 thanks to the former Barcelona great, but their most recent league match ended in a 1-0 loss to Rennes.

Messi is valued by Transfermarkt at about €50 million.
