Lyon’s president, John Textor, expressed his dismay, stating, ‘He can’t engage in a conversation; he had shards of glass embedded in his face.’
Lyon issued a statement outlining the attack:
‘Several reinforced windows were shattered by unidentified heavy projectiles. These same projectiles breached the interior of the bus, directly striking Coach Fabio Grosso and his assistant Raffaele Longo, causing serious facial injuries.’
Due to the injuries and Lyon’s decision not to proceed with the match, the referee, Francois Letexier, confirmed the game’s cancellation.
Approximately 65,000 fans from both teams had already gathered at the stadium for the match but were left disappointed by the turn of events.
Meanwhile, Marseille released a statement condemning the violent attack and extending their best wishes for Grosso’s recovery.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel, the governing body for French football, is now expected to determine a new date for the rescheduled match.”
