The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has renewed its appeal to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for leniency ahead of the expected ruling regarding the recent incident involving Nigeria’s Super Eagles at Al-Abraq airport.
According to Vanguard, the Nigerian team was stranded without adequate assistance for nearly 20 hours upon their arrival in Libya for the return leg of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, preventing them from proceeding with the match.
The incident, which has drawn criticism from CAF, will be addressed at the upcoming general assembly, where a final decision is expected.

Nasser Al-Suwaie, the general secretary and interim president of the Libyan FA, has urged CAF to show mercy in their ruling. He explained that the circumstances were beyond the federation’s control, citing state-level decisions on landing procedures and airport logistics as the primary cause of the issue.
In his remarks to the media, Al-Suwaie appealed for understanding, acknowledging the difficulties that led to the Nigerian team’s poor treatment.
CAF’s disciplinary committee is expected to impose sanctions on the Libyan FA, with a potential ban on the table. According to Leagues Reporter, Nigeria may be awarded three points and three goals, while Libya could face a three-match home ban and a fine.
