Leicester City Sack Steve Cooper After Just 12 Premier League Games
Leicester City have dismissed manager Steve Cooper following a disappointing start to the Premier League season, lasting just five months in the role.
Cooper was appointed in June after Enzo Maresca, who guided Leicester to Championship glory, departed to manage Chelsea. However, the former Nottingham Forest boss failed to win over the fanbase or deliver consistent results.

The Foxes have struggled for form, with only two wins from their opening 12 league games. A brief resurgence with back-to-back victories over Bournemouth and Southampton was undone by three defeats in their last four matches. A 5-2 thrashing by Manchester United, under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, in the Carabao Cup further compounded the pressure on Cooper.
In a statement, Leicester announced that First Team Coach Ben Dawson, supported by Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, would oversee training while the search for a new manager begins. The club hopes to appoint a replacement swiftly.
Cooper, who had been tasked with building on Leicester’s return to the Premier League following their relegation two seasons ago, struggled to replicate his earlier success. Notably, he led Nottingham Forest to Premier League promotion after a 23-year absence and kept them up amid heavy speculation over his future.
Leicester’s managerial turnover has been rapid, with four managers in just 19 months. Brendan Rodgers departed in April 2023, followed by Dean Smith, who failed to prevent relegation. Maresca’s impressive tenure in the Championship was cut short when Chelsea activated his release clause, leaving the Foxes to gamble on Cooper.
Now, with the club languishing in the bottom half of the table, Leicester must regroup and find a manager capable of steadying the ship.
