Leicester City has become the latest club to face accusations of breaching the Premier League Profit & Sustainability regulations after surpassing the permitted loss threshold in their latest financial accounts.
According to the regulations, which aim to prevent clubs from overspending, teams are not allowed to incur losses exceeding £105 million over a rolling three-year period. The charge pertains to the period spanning three years up to and including the 2022/23 season, during which Leicester City was relegated from the top flight.
In response to the charge, a statement from the club expressed surprise and disappointment at the Premier League’s actions. Despite Leicester City not currently being a Premier League club, they emphasized their willingness to engage constructively with the league and the English Football League (EFL) to resolve any potential charges through the appropriate channels and at the appropriate time.

The club reiterated its commitment to complying with the Profit & Sustainability rules while pursuing credible sporting ambitions, highlighting its track record of success both domestically and in European competitions. Leicester City’s situation follows Everton’s recent breach of the Profit & Sustainability rules, although Everton managed to appeal a ten-point reduction, which was reduced to six. Additionally, there is another outstanding charge against Everton and one against Nottingham Forest.
