Sir Alex Ferguson has successfully sold his lavish mansion after slashing £250,000 off its original asking price. The former Manchester United manager, aged 82, decided to put the £3.5 million property in Cheshire on the market following the passing of his wife, Cathy.
After initially struggling to find a buyer, Sir Alex eventually reduced the price to £3.25 million in February, hoping to attract potential purchasers. Recently, the property was snapped up by an undisclosed buyer.
Photos of the mansion showcase its grandeur, featuring a stunning chandelier in the hallway, luxurious en-suite bathrooms, and meticulously groomed lawns. The games room is adorned with artwork, oak bookcases, and a snooker table, complemented by a distinctive ‘Ferguson clan’ tartan carpet on the staircase.

Estate agents representing Sir Alex described the property as “impressive” and “deceptively spacious,” situated on one of Cheshire’s most desirable roads.
Despite the property’s allure, Sir Alex’s tenure at the house was not devoid of controversy. In 2020, he engaged in a planning dispute with a neighbor over the demolition of a two-story house to build a three-story mansion. Sir Alex objected vehemently, citing concerns about privacy and the area’s character. However, planners ultimately approved the neighbor’s proposal, much to Sir Alex’s dismay.
Following the sale, Sir Alex relocated to a £1.2 million house near his son Darren’s residence, seeking proximity to his grandchildren in a Cheshire village. Darren Ferguson, 51, has pursued his own career in management, currently serving as the manager of Peterborough United.
Coincidentally, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, 51, is also attempting to sell a property on the same road as Sir Alex. Originally listed at £4.2 million, Rodgers reduced the price to £4 million in January. His mansion boasts five bedrooms, a gym, landscaped gardens, a double garage, and a bar area, along with modern amenities such as CCTV, underfloor heating, and ceiling speakers.
