According to reports, Leeds United is poised to recruit Dutch player of the year Cody Gakpo before archrival Manchester United in the coming months.

The 23-year-transfer old’s to Old Trafford was heavily discussed over the summer, and it’s also believed that Arsenal looked at bringing the Netherlands international to the Premier League.

Gakpo may need to be sold next year owing to financial issues, according to a recent report, and the forward will probably leave in January or at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season.

According to The Mirror, Leeds and the forward have already reached a personal agreement, and Leeds and PSV are negotiating a £30 million deal.

This season, the Dutchman has been in excellent form at the club level, recording 12 goals and 10 assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.

In eight league games, Gakpo has eight goals and six assists; in two Europa League group stage appearances, he has three goals and one assist.

The forward, who extended his contract with PSV in January, has four years left on it.

The Dutch powerhouses, though, are reportedly eager to make a profit off the attacker after failing to advance past the group stage of the Champions League this year.

In the third round of the competition’s qualification, PSV overcame Monaco before being eliminated by Rangers, who triumphed 3-2 overall.

Gakpo has played 150 games for PSV since his debut in 2018, tallying 54 goals and 43 assists.
