LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, has been named the male flagbearer for Team USA at the Paris Olympics, as announced by the USOPC on Monday.
James, 39, was selected by his fellow US Olympians for the ceremony scheduled on Friday along the river Seine. The female flagbearer will be announced on Tuesday.
“It’s an incredible honor to represent the United States on this global stage, especially at a moment that can unite the entire world,” said James, the power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, in a statement released by the USOPC.

“For a kid from Akron, this responsibility means everything not only to myself but also to my family, all the children in my hometown, my teammates, fellow Olympians, and countless people across the nation with big dreams.
“Sports have the unique ability to bring us all together, and I am proud to be a part of this significant moment.”
The ceremony on the Seine marks the first time a Summer Olympics has commenced outside the main stadium.
