On Saturday, the Abia State Police Command verified the abduction of Prof. Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of Abia State University Uturu, while he was buying fuel at an Umuopara filling station.
This was revealed in a statement released by the command’s public relations officer, Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of state commissioner of police Kenechukwu Onwuemelie.
“On January 26, 2024, at approximately 9.30 p.m., the Abia State Police Command received information that the same day, at approximately 7 p.m., the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Uturu ABSU, Prof. Godwin Emezue, was abducted by hoodlums while purchasing fuel at a petrol station in Umuopara, Umuahia South LGA, while in the company of his wife in their vehicle,” the statement stated.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor was dragged into a Lexus SUV by the thugs, who then took her ATM card and fled with the victim.
The Abia State Police Command is working to solve the crime and safely free the victim from his captors by deploying resources and assets, including intelligence and technical assistance.
“Abians to remain calm and continue their legitimate activities while maintaining vigilance and being security conscious,” the police urged, according to the statement.
Additionally, “we seek the cooperation of the public, particularly in obtaining enhanced security in the state, generally, and in providing any useful information that could be helpful in these particular circumstances.”
According to an ABSU source, the kidnappers had not gotten in touch with anyone about a ransom as of the time this report was filed.
