In a bid to set the record straight, De Bruyne has spoken out, supporting Mourinho’s assertion that he wanted to keep the talented midfielder at the club.

De Bruyne’s Narrative
During an interview with Rio Ferdinand for TNT Sports, De Bruyne shed light on his time at Chelsea and the events that led to his departure.

He explained that despite Mourinho expressing a desire for him to stay, things did not unfold as anticipated. Despite having opportunities within the club, De Bruyne admitted to feeling impatient and eager for regular playing time.

“When I signed for Chelsea, I knew I would be loaned out in the first year, and if I performed well, we would see what happens,” he revealed. “After a successful year at Bremen, there was a bit of a tug-of-war in the summer.

“I could have joined Dortmund with Klopp or stayed at Chelsea; Jose wanted me to stay. It just didn’t work out. I might have been a bit impatient at that time, but I just wanted to play football.”

Moving Ahead
De Bruyne’s decision to seek a transfer eventually led to successful spells at clubs like Wolfsburg and Manchester City, where he has solidified his status as one of the top midfielders globally. His reflections on his Chelsea tenure offer valuable insights into the complexities of player-manager relationships in football.
