Kenny G is the stage name of Kenneth Bruce Gorelick, an American smooth jazz saxophonist, composer, and producer who was born on June 5, 1956. He achieved mainstream success with his 1986 album Duotones. Kenny G is one of the best-selling musicians of all time, with more than 75 million recordings sold worldwide.

Jewish immigrants to Seattle, Washington, gave birth to Kenny G. His mother was a Saskatchewan-born Canadian Jew. When he heard a performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, he first heard the saxophone. When he was 10 years old, he first picked up a Buffet Crampon alto saxophone. In his hometown of Seattle, Kenny G attended Whitworth Elementary School, Sharples Junior High School (now known as Kurose Middle School), Franklin High School, and the University of Washington. His first effort to join the jazz band in high school ended in failure, but the following year he tried again and was given the first chair.

Robert Damper (piano, keyboards), a classmate from Franklin High School, performs in his band. He received private clarinet and saxophone lessons from Johnny Jessen once a week for a year in addition to his high school coursework.
