3,234 workers in the state public service have been found to be receiving salaries illegally by the Kano State Government.

Similarly, among the ineligible workers hired by the former administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje are students from primary and secondary schools, a 13-year-old girl, and National Youth Service Corps members, the government has discovered.

Over 10,000 public employees who were hired toward the end of the previous governor’s administration had their salaries immediately suspended, as instructed earlier by Governor Abba Yusuf.

He claims the committee found that the previous administration overlooked the financial effects of the 2023 appropriation, even with the hurried employment process.

He expressed regret at learning that most of the people hired had not gone through the previous screening process and that some had been hired using forged certificates.

He disclosed that providing 9,332 people with suitable credentials with job opportunities is one of the recommendations approved by the government.

He promised to impose the proper penalties, particularly on the civil servants who carried out the action in accordance with the regulations governing civil service.

“The mother of the 13-year-old girl who confirmed to the committee that she has been receiving salaries through her mother’s account and who is employed in the public service is among those who will be sanctioned,” Bichi continued.
