Juventus has announced its review of a recent court ruling that mandated the payment of nearly €10 million in unpaid wages to former striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Upon Ronaldo’s departure from Juventus to Manchester United in the summer of 2021, he asserted a claim of €19.6 million in owed wages related to a deferral agreement forged during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following a legal dispute, the court determined that both parties shared responsibility for the matter, resulting in a decision to award Ronaldo half of the total owed amount, €19.6 million.

Juventus acknowledged their failure to fulfill Ronaldo’s payment obligations but underscored their intention to scrutinize the verdict, highlighting that the contractual agreement with Ronaldo lacked enforceability, thereby warranting a deviation from full payment.
“The Company, along with its legal advisors, is evaluating the decision rendered by the arbitration board, while reserving all assessments and actions to safeguard its rights,” Juventus stated.
Ronaldo was among several Juventus players who agreed to defer their wages during the COVID-19 pandemic, a practice adopted by numerous European clubs to mitigate financial losses due to the absence of matchday revenue. However, Juventus faced scrutiny for allegedly misreporting these agreements.
Although the club publicly disclosed the wage deferral arrangements, allegations arose concerning the concealment of several months’ worth of wages off the books, prompting a comprehensive investigation into Juventus’ financial practices in recent years.
During his tenure in Turin, Ronaldo made a significant impact, tallying 101 goals in 134 appearances and contributing to the club’s attainment of two Serie A titles before returning to Manchester United.
