Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Kostas Tsimikas sustained a broken collarbone during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal after an accidental collision with the manager on the touchline. Tsimikas, filling in for the injured Andy Robertson, had to exit the match in the 35th minute following a tussle with Bukayo Saka that sent him tumbling off the pitch, colliding with Klopp in the process.
Addressing the media post-game, Klopp revealed the severity of Tsimikas’s injury, stating, “He [Tsimikas] broke his collarbone at least. That’s really bad for us.” Consequently, Joe Gomez had to step in at left-back for the remainder of the match against Arsenal and may need to continue in that role for an extended period due to the injuries to Tsimikas and Robertson, who has been sidelined since mid-October.
In addition to Tsimikas, another casualty in the draw was forward Luis Diaz, who appeared to suffer a knock in the second half. When questioned about Diaz’s potential injury, Klopp explained, “He has pain, it was knee on knee, and in that moment we wanted to change twice, and then Lucho was down.” Klopp added that while the initial assessment from the physios wasn’t overly concerning, the extent of Diaz’s injury remains uncertain, and with a quick turnaround in fixtures, further evaluation is needed before the next match.
