Liverpool defender Joe Gomez believes Manchester United will feel the pressure to take on the role of aggressors in Sunday’s showdown at Old Trafford.
The Reds travel from Merseyside this weekend with the aim of maintaining their momentum in the Premier League title race.
Following a disappointing 4-3 loss to Chelsea, where they surrendered a 3-2 lead in stoppage time, Erik ten Hag’s side is eager to bounce back.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Gomez emphasized that the responsibility will fall on United to adopt an attacking approach at home.
“With the game being at their home ground, I don’t think their fans would appreciate them adopting a defensive strategy,” Gomez said. “I anticipate they’ll come out and attack us, and it’s our task to handle that pressure and respond accordingly.”
Liverpool is seeking redemption at Old Trafford after suffering a dramatic 4-3 defeat to United in the FA Cup last month.
“The disappointment from our previous encounter in the FA Cup is still fresh in our minds,” Gomez noted. “We had moments of promise in that game but couldn’t see it through to the end. However, we’re focused on the next challenge. It’s a different competition, and we understand the importance of bringing our momentum into this fixture. Old Trafford is always a tough place to play, and United remains a formidable opponent, so we must be prepared.”
Reflecting on the frustration of relinquishing control in the FA Cup clash, Gomez emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities to secure victory.
“The most frustrating aspect was our failure to assert dominance and manage the game,” Gomez commented. “It serves as a reminder that we must be ruthless and capitalize on our chances to secure wins, as momentum can shift rapidly. We aim to regain control and ensure we capitalize on opportunities in this upcoming encounter.”
