Southgate is expected to unveil his squad for England’s forthcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, offering insight into his selections for Euro 2024. With a series of setbacks in the full-back positions, reports suggest Liverpool’s Gomez could make a return to the squad, with Reece James, Luke Shaw, Kieran Trippier, and Ben Chilwell sidelined due to injury. Additionally, goalkeeper Jack Butland is likely to earn a spot following a resurgence in his club career. Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite may also receive his first call-up, while Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo misses out this time.

However, Gomez’s last appearance for England dates back to November 2020 in a friendly against Wales. Should he feature in either of the upcoming matches, it would mark his return to international action after more than three years.

Southgate is scheduled to announce his squad for the friendlies at 2pm (GMT) on 14th March.
