The 22-year-old is once again being linked with the possibility of a transfer to Old Trafford. The player will have aspirations of shining for his native Portugal at the upcoming World Cup. He was rumored to be joining the team during the summer, and now, according to rumors from outside, Atletico is prepared to ‘welcome bids’ for him before the January transfer window opens.

Felix has failed to find his form this season, scoring just two goals in 16 appearances across all competitions since arriving at Atletico from Portuguese powerhouse Benfica back in July 2019 for an eye-popping £113 million. He has recently had trouble securing a spot in Diego Simeone’s favoured starting lineup, frequently making substitute appearances.

He joined Atletico little over three years ago, but he hasn’t quite reached the heights with them, scoring fewer than ten goals in each of his first three full seasons in the Spanish capital. He has played 127 games for the club and only scored 31 goals overall.

Felix and Simeone, though, might not be overly surprised by that given that the former acknowledged earlier this year that he feels he performs best when playing as a typical No.10 rather than an outright striker. Recently, at least, some United supporters have speculated that he might be the solution to the Reds’ goal-scoring woes.

According to Felix, playing the second forward position is his best option. With a man in front of me, I’m “playing like a No. 10.”

Having said that, Felix might not be the best choice to address United’s goal-scoring problems. His goal total at Atletico Madrid indicates that he frequently served as a second striker.

His final season with Benfica saw him have his most fruitful season to date, scoring 20 goals and dishing out 11 assists in 43 appearances. He has had trouble reproducing comparable quantities in Spain.

After asking Harry Maguire to come off the bench and play as a striker in United’s 1-0 Europa League victory over Real Sociedad on Thursday night, boss Erik ten Hag acknowledged that the Reds “need solutions” to address their problems in front of goal.

Ten Hag stated to BT Sport that “we need options.” There are issues there.

Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, and Anthony are all unavailable, but I’m incredibly pleased with the performance and hope Alejandro Garnacho can continue the process.

The next round of United’s team makeover will prioritize the acquisition of a striker.
