Barcelona president Joan Laporta has officially stated the club’s intention to secure permanent transfers for both Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix at the conclusion of their respective loan periods.
The initial loan agreements did not include an option for permanency, necessitating negotiations with Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.
Laporta emphasized the impressive performance of Cancelo and Felix since their arrival, expressing the club’s desire to retain them for the upcoming seasons. He confirmed plans to initiate negotiations soon, highlighting positive relations with both Man City and Atleti.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Cancelo, who fell out of favor at Manchester City last season, was a summer-long effort culminating in a deadline day agreement. Bayern, where Cancelo spent the latter part of the previous season on loan, declined to exercise a €70m (£61.6m) purchase option. Despite early indications from Bayern’s Hasan Salihamidzic that the fixed fee clause would not be activated, hopes of negotiating a slightly reduced figure ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Similarly, Joao Felix, who spent the second half of the previous season at Chelsea, drew interest from PSG. However, Barcelona entered the picture later in the summer, abandoning their pursuit of Bernardo Silva from Manchester City. Felix expressed eagerness to join Barcelona, contributing to the club’s pursuit of the Portuguese talent.
