Barcelona president Joan Laporta has emphasized his desire for Xavi Hernandez to continue as the club’s manager beyond the current season, refuting Xavi’s previous announcement of his intention to depart at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. This decision followed a challenging period for Barcelona, marked by defeats in two El Clasicos and slipping out of contention for the La Liga title.

However, Barcelona’s fortunes have taken a positive turn since then, with an impressive ten-game unbeaten streak across all competitions and a recent qualification for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2020, courtesy of a victory over SSC Napoli.

One of these conditions purportedly involves Barcelona directly requesting Xavi to reconsider his decision. Speaking in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Laporta hinted at this possibility, stating, “Yes, yes, yes, yes, he already knows it [that Barca want Xavi to stay], but he notices it.”

Laporta further explained his stance, expressing his desire for Xavi to remain but acknowledging the pressure associated with managing Barcelona. He recounted a conversation with Xavi where he asked if there was room for reconsideration, understanding the immense pressure Xavi was under. Laporta encouraged Xavi to relax and reassured him that decisions could be made later based on how the season progresses.

Laporta concluded by stating that Xavi is aware of the situation and has the motivation to strive for glory in the current season, leaving open the possibility of reassessing the managerial position depending on the outcomes achieved.
