Three local government council chairs have been suspended by the Jigawa State House of Assembly for reportedly leaving the nation without authorization from the state legislature or executive branch.
The chairmen under suspension are Umar Baffa of Birniwa LGA, Rufai Sunusi of Gumel LGA, and Mubarak Ahmed of Yankwashi LGA, who is rumored to have visited Rwanda.
After Aminu Tsubut, the chairman of the Committee on Local Government Affairs, made a proposal to suspend the impacted council chairs, the House made its judgment.

He clarified that the House had ordered the state’s local council chairs not to travel before their trip since they were working on the 2024 state appropriations bill, which Governor Mallam Umar Namadi would be presenting to the Assembly.
“This is an act of insubordination and a nonchalant attitude toward the primary responsibility,” declared Tsubut, “and it needs to be investigated right away.”
The proposal made by Tsubut was seconded by the members from the constituencies of Guri and Usman Abdullahi Tura, respectively, and Malam Madori.
Subsequently, the House resolved to suspend the three chairmen of local government and instructed the vice chairmen of the impacted councils to assume their positions.
Meanwhile, the House had constituted a committee under the chairmanship of the Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Muhammad Dansure to investigate the matter and report back to the House within four weeks for further action.
