Jesse Lingard, a former Manchester United player, played on loan with West Ham for the second half of the 2020–21 campaign, but in 2022 he decided against returning to the London Stadium and instead signed with Nottingham Forest.
In response to West Ham United’s interest, Jesse Lingard gave an explanation of why he decided to sign with Nottingham Forest, claiming that it would be to his “advantage” to join the freshly promoted team.
From Manchester United, Lingard spent the second half of the 2020–21 campaign on loan at the London Stadium, where he performed admirably. The England international became a big hit with the Hammers supporters after scoring nine goals and dishing out five assists in 16 league games.
Lingard stayed at Old Trafford but struggled for playing time and left on a free transfer at the end of the season rather than coming back for the start of the 2021/22 season.
The 30-year-old midfielder was available for free transfer to David Moyes’ team, but in an unexpected turn of events, he decided to accept a contract with The Tricky Trees instead. He has had some difficulty, though, as he has made just 13 league appearances for his new team without scoring or offering an assist.

After spending the majority of the previous season on the United United bench, Lingard said the owners’ ‘love’ and desire for him helped him make the decision to join Steve Cooper’s team.
“I desired to participate in regular football. Sitting on the bench is challenging. My time has come to move on. I was aware that moving to Nottingham would be advantageous for me, Lingard told The Athletic.
“I spoke with the Marinakis family and the owners quite a bit. They were incredibly loving to me. You must join a team where you feel appreciated. More than anyone else, I sensed that from them.
