Jake Paul and Mike Tyson have been officially suspended from boxing following their highly anticipated Netflix fight.

Last week, the two fighters faced off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in front of 70,000 fans and many more watching via Netflix. The 27-year-old Paul emerged victorious with a unanimous decision after eight rounds.

However, the two men won’t be stepping back into the ring anytime soon. They have both been suspended in accordance with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), which mandates a 24-day suspension for each fighter after completing the eight-round fight. This suspension is based on a guideline of three days rest for every round fought, aimed at ensuring the fighters’ safety.

While the suspension may seem lengthy, it’s in place to protect the health of the athletes. According to TDLR regulations, a contestant may be medically disqualified at the recommendation of an examining physician. Fighters who disagree with a medical disqualification or suspension can request a hearing to prove their fitness.

In contrast, co-headliners Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will serve a longer 45-day suspension, according to reports from The Mirror.

Paul, who has been vocal about his future in the sport, has called out retired MMA fighter Conor McGregor on social media, continuing to build anticipation for his next fight. Reflecting on his match with Tyson, Paul shared that after seeing Tyson tire, he didn’t want to hurt him further. “I wanted the fans to get a good experience, but my aggression and violence went away when I wasnโ€™t getting hit. I love Mike,” Paul said, adding that he even bowed to Tyson post-fight as a sign of respect for the legend’s career.
