Speaking to Sky Sports, the 32-year-old said the incident occurred due to his anger at the events of the match and that he saw the same fan again after their 1-0 win over West Ham.
He said: โIt looked worse than it was. It was at the end of the game and I was angry with my performance, I was angry with the result, with the penalty and everything.

The Spaniard believes the row with the supporter looked โworseโ than it actually was
โWe spoke clearly that he wanted more fight from the team and he was right and I just expressed my view that in this moment, everybody, we were having a moment of difficulty.
โWe were having 15 (thousand) people less in the stadium, we were in a moment of difficulty and we needed to push altogether in the same direction.
โThe other day after the (West Ham) game, I saw him again, I gave him the captainโs armband. I look at the images and itโs not really me, I was really angry.โ

Despite pointing at the fan and gesturing back towards them, he appeared to walk away from the situation, before changing direction to confront the fan.
The Spaniard then appeared to berate the supporter for appearing to applaud sarcastically in his direction, with the fan then reacting by continuing the argument with the Chelsea star.
However, the fan then appeared to give in and subsequently held his hands up in apology, followed by a thumbs up to the defender.
Meanwhile, fellow Chelsea fans in the section of Stamford Bridge had gathered around the arguing pair and seemed to offer their thanks and support to Azpilicueta.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel however insisted he could see both sides of the argument, saying: โI was not part of it. I saw it but honestly I can also understand the fan.โ
