Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola responded to criticism of his handling of Jack Grealish following Sunday’s goalless draw with Arsenal. Guardiola was seen giving animated instructions to Grealish on the field at full time, prompting scrutiny of his approach to addressing players on the pitch rather than in the dressing room.
When questioned about his interaction with Grealish, Guardiola told reporters, “I do it for the cameras, my ego. I’m the prominent figure in the team and I seek the cameras for a sense of immense satisfaction. I always aim to critique the players there [on the pitch] and make them aware of their shortcomings. Especially when Erling [Haaland] scores three goals, the cameras must focus on me.”
City is set to host Grealish’s former club Aston Villa in their upcoming league fixture on Wednesday.
