The National Bureau of Statistics reported on Friday that the average cost of certain food items skyrocketed in November.
According to the research, the average cost of one kilogram of brown beans increased from N790.01 in October 2023 by 6.18%. The item increased by 44.99% year over year, from N578.55 in November 2022 to N838.85 in November 2023.
The average cost of a 1kg onion bulb increased by 60.62% from N425.71 in November 2022 to N683.78 in November 2023, while the average cost of a 1kg tomato increased by 66.69% and by 12.24% from N675.91 in October 2023 to N758.65 in November 2023.

The report also mentioned Lagos had the greatest average, according to the data.
According to the state profile analysis conducted in November 2023, Lagos State recorded the highest average price of N1,122.42 for a kilogram of locally grown rice sold, while Kebbi State recorded the lowest price at N688.00. This information was provided by NBS in its Selected Food Prices Watch report for November, which was made public in Abuja on Friday.
Yobe State had the lowest average price of N2,533.33 for a kilogram of boneless beef, while Anambra State had the highest average price of N3,850.47.
Jigawa had the lowest average price of N 575.00 for a kilogram of brown beans, while Imo state recorded the highest price of N 1,109.75.k
Gombe had the lowest average price of N 506.41 for a 1 kg loose onion bulb, while Anambra State had the highest average price of N 872.23.
Kano had the lowest average price of N396.04 for a kilogram of tomatoes, while Delta had the highest average price of N 1,505.16.
Additionally, zone-by-zone research revealed that the South-West had the highest average price of N956.28 for 1kg of local rice, followed by the South-South with N932.47, and the North-East with N776.12.
The South-East and South-West had the highest average prices for 1 kg of boneless beef, at N3,643.65 and N3,290.11, respectively, while the North-East had the lowest, at N2,632.22.
For 1 kg of brown beans (sold loose), the South-East had the highest average price ($1,034.08), followed by the South-West ($977.98), while the North-West ($663.96) had the lowest.
The North-East had the lowest average price of N529.95 for a 1 kg onion bulb, while the South-East and South-South had the highest prices, N817.11 and N775.34, respectively.
In the meantime, the South-South had the highest average price of N1,307.66 for a kilogram of tomatoes, followed by the South-West with N1,047.18, and the North-West with N434.80.
