Kollington Ayinla confirms he was ill

From the hospital bed, Kollington Ayinla has affirmed that he is alive and not deceased, as several media sites had said.

The seasoned Fuji icon was reportedly hospitalized and battling an unidentified sickness.

Kollington appeared to acknowledge his illness and his progress, praising God and the quick action of the LASUTH medical staff for keeping him alive.

Nigerian veteran Fuji musician Kolawole Rasaq Ilori, better known as Kollington Ayinla, has shut down a rumour of his death.

Gossipinfo reported on Tuesday, January 23 that Kollington Ayinla was battling an undisclosed illness and in critical health condition at LASUTH.

There were also claims that he was placed on oxygen support as his health condition worsened.


However, while speaking in a now-viral video, the 75 year old who is currently on admission at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH in Ikeja, Lagos, said he is alive.


Kollington Ayinla thanked God, Lagosians and also expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support. He particularly thanked the hospital management for their care. The veteran Fuji icon said in Yoruba:

“I want to thank Lagosians. I want to thank the government of Lagos State Government and the management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and the team under the leadership of Adetokunbo O. Fabanwo.


It is only God that can save life but I want to appreciate him and the team because I would have gone to the great beyond.

“I give it to the LASUTH. They are king for taking care of me. They deserve my salutations. LASUTH LASUTH LASUTH, you are king. They said I was dead, but I’m here speaking alive from the LASUTH now.”

Born August 1949, the legendary Fuji singer hails from Ilota, in Kwara State, and he is also known by the aliases; Baba Alatika, Kebe-n-Kwara, and Baba Alagbado.
