I recently heard a story I’d like to share to buttress the fact that we are naked without true friends.

This lady was married to a comfortable man who didn’t allow her work.
She was what you will call a housewife.
He provided everything she and the household needed. She lacked nothing.

From the corner of her house, she was as engaging as a working class mother.
WhatsApp Aluminum associations
WhatsApp church and service unit groups
Rekindling with old friends…
She joined in many classes online and built a solid friendship base.
She was active there and was deeply committed.

Then, life happened.
Her husband died suddenly.

Here is what one of her friends told me. 👇👇👇

Because we know the tradition in the village where her husband was from, we quickly organised ourselves and went to her house before her in-laws arrived from the village.

We moved her car out and removed vital documents.
We did a roster where we all ran shifts with her.
As soon as they arrived from the village, drama started.
They first accused her of killing their brother.
With tears in her eyes she told them that her husband was more useful to her alive than dead as she was not a working class woman.
They stripped the house naked of everything.
They even began to fight among themselves on who should take what.
They said they were going to shave her hair but, we withstood them.
They cooked some very strange looking meals every morning and night and brought them to her room where she had been forced to sit on the bare floor. They said the food was to make her confess if she killed her husband.
As soon as they turned away, we discarded their food and replaced the content of the calabash with meals we brought.
When it was time for them to clear the calabash for the next meal, we would have left a little of what they brought in the calabash as left over.

When they saw that she hadn’t ‘confessed’, they changed tactics.
Meanwhile our friend was already losing it emotionally.
We kept encouraging and comforting her. We provided a solid emotional support for her. Even people she hadn’t met face to face from the various groups she belonged to on social media came around and
