During her active years in the theatre industry, Mrs. Esther Idowu Philips, a veteran nollywood actress better known by her stage name Mama Rainbow, explained why she was called the cheapest actress by producers.
Mama Rainbow claimed that several of the film makers she collaborated with during her productive years on stage frequently underpaid her for her work as an actor in their productions.
She bemoaned that no matter what was given to her back then, she would still value it since it would enable her to provide for her children by putting food on the table.

In an exclusive interview with BBC News Yoruba, Mrs. Philips revealed that after her husband passed away on January 22, 1984, leaving behind five children, things got very difficult for her.
Mama Rainbow claimed that it was very difficult for her to manage five kids and the house rent on her own. She claimed that in order to take on the responsibilities left behind by her late husband, she had to stand her ground in the field and work hard.
She described how she typically hiked from a filming location to her home in Lagos. The joyful woman, who runs a foundation, expressed her gratitude to God for giving her the fortitude to persevere and succeed in life.
