Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife, the traditional ruler of the Isseke village in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, announced on Friday that he was left homeless following the burning down of his castle by as-yet-unidentified attackers.
Situated on the border between Imo State and Nigeria, Isseke is a notoriously unstable settlement. Recent unrest there is thought to have sprung from calls for Biafra.
An eyewitness, known only as Okeke, who is a community leader in the area, stated that the occurrence occurred on January 3, 2024.

“What happened on January 3, 2024, to Igwe Isseke and some of his cabinet members was a reflection of what Igboland has become,” he declared.
The thugs always treat us in this way, and for no good reason. They target the Igwes and the town’s indigenous people through marriages, funeral rites, and traditional unions. However, according to our journalist Igwe Nnabuife, the attackers destroyed everything he had worked so hard for, even if no lives were lost.
“It is true that those boys set fire to my palace, and I have lost everything that I have worked my entire life to achieve. As it stands, I am homeless,” declared the monarch.
“Everything was destroyed, but thank God those boys did not kill anyone or injure anyone. This is how things work in my town, Isseke.”
When contacted, Aderemi Adeoye, the commissioner of police for Anambra State, stated that officers had been sent out to find the arsonists.
“The situation in the area has been brought under control, and command personnel have been sent to track down the attackers,” he declared. There are currently ongoing investigations.
