Elesin Oba Movie

The critically renowned stage drama “Death and the King’s Horseman,” written by Nigerian Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, is the basis for the movie, which will make its Netflix debut on November 4th.

The screenplay will be the first Yoruba language film to ever have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Special Presentation category this September, before being mainstreamed as a first in its genre on Netflix. It is directed by the master of “Half of a Yellow Sun” and “Fifty,” Biyi Bandele.

The gripping classic is based on actual occasions in Nigeria’s colonial history when the colonial authorities stopped the horseman (Eleshin Oba) of a Yoruba King in the Oyo Kingdom from committing ritual suicide.

Omowunmi co-stars with other A-list actors. They consist of Langley Kirkwood, Deyemi Okolanwon, Jide Kosoko, Odunlade Adekola, Shaffy Bello, Mark Elderkin, Jenny Stead, and Brymo Olawale, among others.
