Taye Adebisi, also known as Taye Currency, is a well-known Fuji singer who is based in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. He has told stories of how the late Christopher Alao-Akala, the state’s previous governor, financially freed him after giving him N99 million for his 2011 governorship campaign.

Speaking in the meantime, Taye Currency recalled that he had confronted Akala, the governor at the time, in his Ogbomoso residence on the fact that money intended for him was withheld by individuals who were supposed to reimburse them for the campaign events organized on his behalf.
Taye Currency continued, saying that he gained his boldness by challenging the late Lamidi Adedibu, who was a well-known campaign mobilizer for the Peoples Democratic Party in the state chapter, about not receiving royalties. The late politician also visited Taye Currency’s home and apologized, saying that things would get better after his outburst.
“I want to share a story about how I became who I am today and how my life was turned around for the better,” he stated. I received an invitation to participate in the 2010 campaign trail for the late Governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, along with many others. I wasn’t paid on time by the show promoter who was in responsible of compensating me for my vocals during the campaign. He would frequently postpone paying me, sometimes for as long as three days.
Luckily, I happened to be at the late Governor’s house when he left. I began yelling and screamed that I had not received payment for my performance at the campaign and that I would not be going back to the stage.
“Akala requested that I come to him and gave him an explanation for my sudden outburst. I informed him that I had not received my N500,000 payment yet.
“After being taken aback, he went to see his First Lady, Mrs. Kemi Alao Akala, and gave her the go-ahead to handle paying me every time I performed on stage for the duration of the campaign.
“Akala then gave me the order to receive N99 million right away so that I could launch campaigns throughout the state’s 33 Local Government Areas.
That’s how I succeeded.
I was taken aback instantly. I have N60 million left over after paying everyone,” he emphasized.
Because of his enthusiastic participation in the governor’s campaign, Taye Currency was named the Culture Ambassador during Governor Seyi Makinde’s first term.
